One of the things on my list of little things that annoy me from yesterday's post was people stopping by unannounced. It reminded me of a funny video clip I saw of comedian Sebastian Maniscalco talking about the difference between the doorbell ringing 20 years ago compared to today. It's so true, although I think what he talks about was more like 40 or more years ago instead of 20. Either way, I think it's funny - enjoy. :)
This was hilarious and SO true. I don't know anyone that just drops by now, but it was very common 30-40 years ago. If someone does ring the doorbell it's probably someone selling things and I don't open the door.
ReplyDeleteExactly! I never open the door anymore unless I'm expecting someone. I do have good memories of people just stopping by when I was younger, and my mother did always have something special ready and waiting that was just for company, lol.
DeleteLot of changes in 20 years for sure.We didn't used to let everyone know when we going to stop by. Sometimes, we'd just go for a ride and stop to visit relatives. Back then most women were home and didn't go to work. I'll say one thing, no one ever stopped by when the house was clean.
ReplyDeleteEveryone did it all the time back in those days. I also remember neighbors just tapping on the door and then opening it to give a little yoo-hoo instead of waiting for someone to come to the door. We were all much more social back then.

DeleteThat was so funny! I'm sad that doesn't happen anymore. I'm still ok with drop in guests, but unfortunately, if the doorbell rings it's usually someone trying to sell something!

DeleteWe used to have Sara Lee cakes! (not always for company though) When my doorbell rings, it's often a salesperson for windows, solar panels or internet provider.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always kept those frozen Pepperidge Farm cakes on hand for company. It's almost never anyone you want to see at the door anymore.
DeleteWe rarely get a drop by visit from just one of our neighbors. I guess we see them out just enough in good weather, we catch up a bit and we are all done.
ReplyDeleteI remember the days when neighbors would basically just tap on the door and then let themselves in. Times sure have changed. I don't even know most of my neighbors now.
DeleteI’ve seen that before and it is SO true! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to hide over the years. Now we have security cameras and I can just look at my phone! I have 2 Do NOT Knock signs and nobody pays attention to them.🙄
ReplyDeleteIt really is true. I can even remember shushing my kids when someone would knock, lol, that's why I said it was more like 40 years ago. I can't believe people still knock at your door with signs up. I think that would make me mad enough to go to the door just to ask if they can read and to not so nicely tell them to go away!
