NaBloPoMo - Day 10

Way back in the old days of blogging, I used to do something on Mondays called The Simple Woman's Daybook. I thought it might be fun to bring that back. These weren't the original prompts. Most changed them up a bit over time to suit themselves. These are the ones I was using on an old blog. They still work for me. Feel free to use them yourself if the urge strikes.

Outside my window... It's cloudy and very windy, currently 66 degrees. The high is 68 today. The temperature is forecast to drop into the 30s by tonight. That's very cold by SW Florida standards.

My weekend... It was a fairly quiet weekend. I did watch the girls for a few hours on Saturday evening. We had a nice dinner and movie night. We watched the Disney movie Elio. They actually cuddled up on the couch with me and sat still for the movie. I was shocked. I did some cleaning and grocery shopping on Sunday.

This morning... I'm relaxing with a cup of coffee and reading blogs.

I am wearing... Yoga pants and one of my son's castoffs, a big, worn-out, comfy concert t-shirt, an Avenged Sevenfold shirt to be exact.

I am listening to... The sound of the high winds whipping through the trees outside.

I am thinking... This daybook idea might be a good thing for me to try to stick with weekly or at least monthly when life gets back to being too busy to blog regularly.

I am feeling... Happy and content.

I am reading... Blogs, lots and lots of lovely blogs.

I am cooking... I made some egg salad yesterday that I'll finish off for brunch today, and then I'll be cooking up a new recipe I came across a little later this afternoon - Moroccan Chickpea and Couscous Soup

I am watching... I just finished the series The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime. I didn't think it would be my kind of thing, but I got invested after the first couple of episodes and actually really enjoyed it. Have you seen it?

I think I'll binge-watch what's out so far of this season of Grey's Anatomy next. Anyone else a fan? I think it's gone way downhill, but I can't stop watching after all these years. It's hard to believe it's on season 22.

I am going... Nowhere today, as far as I know.

This week... I'm planning to stay at home both today and tomorrow. I have some paperwork to deal with and a few projects I'm working on. I'll have the girls on Wednesday instead of Thursday this week. Thursday will be clean up and recovery from the two little tornadoes, and Friday will be a mass catch-up day to get all of this week's errands done.

How are things outside of your window today?

Have a great week! :)

    1. Thanks Sam. I definitely got in some R&R. I haven't made the soup yet. That's on the agenda for today. I wish I could send you over a bowl for your little sick one.

How was the soup? It sounds so good.

  4. Good morning! I woke up to snow on the ground the past 2 days. Not much though and I'm really not ready for that.
I'm going to have to look up that show on Prime. I haven't heard of it.
    Have a great day!

    1. It's a YA romance. My daughter in law encouraged me to watch saying it was the best series she's watched in a long time. Like I said, didn't sound like something I would enjoy, but I definitely enjoyed it. Sorry about the snow. I hope you have a great day too!

  5. My weekly, or sometimes only daily [!] prompts tend to wind up on a simple notepad which then gets stuck on the fridge. Can't seem to think much further ahead than that. This morning woke to a welcome late autumn chill in the air, which I personally love and a kitty snoring near my cheek ...

  6. Wet here. Much needed rain though it curtails time on the trails with the grand-dog. Have a lovely week!

    1. I guess if you need the rain it's a good thing. Sounds like a good time to stay inside and cuddle up with the grand-dog with just a quick trip outside ever y now and then. Wishing you a lovely week too!

  7. I used to watch Grey's Anatomy all the time, It is a good series. I like the daybook way of writing. Hope you keep it up. It's cold here in Texas too but I felt better after seeing a picture of snow in Ohio this morning. At least the sun is shinning and the sky is blue here! Hope you have fun with your tornados!

    1. Your weather there is Texas is much more like our weather here - you know that. I know you've been to Florida plenty of times. Another friend mentioned that it was snowing at her place in Ohio this morning. I'm glad I still have a little time to rest up before the tornadoes return, lol.

  8. Great prompts! I had a baking disaster yesterday. I tried to make Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies and for some unknown reason the dough was dry and crumbly and didn't bake worth a damn. I baked one sheet of crappy, crumbly cookies and then just threw everything out. How can anyone mess up Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies?

    1. Lol. you had to have measured something incorrectly or something along the way. How disappointing though. I don't know if I could handle that. There's not much that's better than warm Tollhouse cookies fresh out of the oven!

    2. I made some Toll House Chocolate Chip cookies last night, and they turned out the way my chocolate chip cookies always turn out. No matter the recipe. They fall flat and are greasy. The dough was delicious! I quit trying for real this time. I usually make oatmeal chocolate chip, they turn out fine!

    3. Lisa, I think that's kind of how tollhouse cookies are supposed to be, lol

  9. We are in the midst of snow, which I hate. Sat night we went to a hibachi place with my BIL and his wife. I hadn’t been to one since the 80’s! My oldest daughter’s family was here yesterday and I made bbq pork chops, roasted broccoli, corn soufflé, and Waldorf salad. All the grandkids liked it, which was nice! I’m babysitting the 4 YO tomorrow because I have a Dr appointment Wednesday. That’s the highlights!

    1. That all sounds great Bijoux except for the snow, of course. I love hibachi but those places are always ridiculously expensive. We have a new take-out hibachi place right next door to the grocery store I go to. I've been picking something up every time I go grocery shopping, lol! Your dinner sounds delicious, I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. Have fun with your little one. :)

  11. It's so great to have you back in blogland!!! I hope you stick around past November. WOW that's almost downright cold for you!

I morphed from Simple Woman's Daybook to Happy Homemaker Monday years ago, but have stuck with it and it is like my cornerstone for blogging and holding me accountable to myself for the week these days! Have a wonderful week my friend.

  12. I'll save these this "prompts" for some day! Outside my window is fog. I go to the airport later to pick up my son, who is on a flight, different day, different airline, different layover city he tries to avoid (Denver), because his original flight was cancelled. The airport is small (still called International) and only 5 or so minutes away. Fortunately, they don't take off or land over my house! If there's heavy fog they may not land though.

  14. Oh, I love this! Even though what's outside my window is a bunch of stupid way-too-early snow, after a stupidly long no-frost fall. Go home mother nature, you're drunk. I keep telling myself I'm done with Grey's and then I end up watching whatever I've missed while cleaning or cooking at some point - I just can't resist a turgid medical drama. I am between shows for anything good right now. The movie snuggles sound amazing.

    1. You crack me up, but I have to agree, mother nature is drunk! Same here with Grey's. I can't stop watching after all the years I've invested in it, even though it kind of sucks now.

  17. It snowed last night - like fairly significant and it is noon and there is still snow out. Not quite ready for that. I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy after the first few seasons and honestly didn't realize that it was still on. I love that the girls say and cozied up with you while watching the movie.

    1. Everyone seems to be getting snow! I was the same way with Grey's until my son's girlfriend back in high school got me back into it - and then I had to go back and binge-watch from the beginning to get up to speed. I've continued watching ever since -- 22 seasons, crazy!

  20. Hi Martha, I had a fairly quiet weekend too. Sounds like yours was nice with the girls. Thanks for sharing what’s been going on. I think your daybook is a great idea. Just finished off the batch of Cheesy Potato and Corn Chowder I made and will have it on next Monday’s blog post. I haven’t found anything to watch to beat the last series and do you think I can remember what that was at this point in time? I’m going to have to get my thinking cap on. You’ve given me some ideas though. It's 47 degrees here in Northern Virginia. This was a fun read, thank you and have a great week!

  21. I remember reading several blogs that used these prompts on a weekly basis. Haven't seen them in a while. Glad the granddaughters cuddled up with you to watch the movie on Saturday. Glad you've had a quiet weekend and are having a relaxed day, today.

  22. It is cold and windy here today too...at 3:00 p.m it is 61, but the "feels like temp" is 56. It will be freezing in the morning here in north central Florida. We didn't get any rain yesterday as predicted, so it is bright, sunny, dry, cold and windy, and there's a fire alert out. Your soup sounds good, and that gives me an idea for tomorrow when it is so cold, however we have to go out tomorrow for dr. appointments. Bah Humbug! I'm relaxing with a cup of hot tea right now, and I am wearing long pants, long sleeved t-shirt and a flannel shirt over that, and it feels good! My throat was a little scratchy this morning and I haven't felt too perky today, so I'm praying I'm not getting a cold. Hopefully it's just an allergy, so I took an allergy pill today and am just taking it easy. I am glad you are back among us, and I look forward to hearing from you on a more regular schedule as you are able, between taking care of all the sweet grandbabies, that is! You are blessed to have them, even though I can imagine they are tiring, but it's a sweet kind of tired. Take care and enjoy your free time while you can!

I woke up to very heavy rain but thankfully it cleared up later in the day and I went our with a friend to a local garden centre/store and spent time admiring the lovely collection of Christmas goodies :)

    All the best Jan

  24. I remember a few different bloggers doing a version of this. Haven't seen it in a while, though. Nice to bring it back. Funny story: my father lives next door to one of the mothers of the members of Avenged Sevenfold. I think she's still there. I heard she was planning on moving, but I don't think it's happened yet.

We woke up to a very cold 35 degrees this morning here in GA, and it's predicted to be in the deep freeze overnight. So sweet that the tornadoes calmed down long enough to watch that movie with you, too. Enjoy your week!

  30. I love chick peas - please let us know if the soup is yummy!! It is cold here in Alabama. We supposedly broke the record low for this morning. The sun is shining and it will start warming up . . .this morning, it was 24. I think the high on Friday or Saturday is mid to upper 70's. The good thing about Alabama is that it doesn't stay cold for long.

    1. The soup is very good. I used pearled couscous instead of the regular and I kept it on the side to add when serving. Otherwise, it would get all mushy sitting in the soup and would absorb half the broth. It's colder there than here, we were at 39, but it is bright and sunny here, too, so it will start warming up here as well.
