Our family did not go to fast food places when I would have been young enough to remember that. Plus, it seemed like Burger Chef was more popular here.
Bijoux, we really didn't either. They weren't any fast food places anywhere in the city we lived at that time. I remember a McDonalds like this because going to try it while visiting my grandparents was treated like a really big deal! I don't think we ever had Burger Chef in southern parts of Florida.
I do remember when McDonald's looked like this, but we didn't have one in our town or even very near, that I can remember. And actually even when we were traveling on vacations from Florida to Ohio in the summertime to visit our relatives, I don't remember seeing them. There was an occasional A&W Root Beer drive in that we would stop at, which was always a treat because they'd bring the Root Beer in frosty mugs and attach the little tray on the window sill of the car. That was always fun! However, we mostly stopped at roadside parks while traveling and my mother made us sandwiches to eat! Those were the days, my friend...I wish they'd never ended!!
We didn't have any in my area either. Even our A&W was pretty far and a real special occasion to go there too, but that was the best! Same for us as far as traveling too, always had that cooler in the truck packed up with sandwiches and drinks to stop at those little picnic areas that used to be along the highways. They sure were the good old day!
I didn't have fast food until I was a teenager, and my first experience was with White Castle. And, not that far from where I lived, Jack in the Box. Then there was Horn and Hardart, but I don't know that it could truly be considered fast food.
Hi Martha, I don't remember them looking like this, either, but perhaps it was different here in Montreal, anyway! Thank you so much for sharing this! I was born in 1956 (October), and my parents and I did not go out for a meal often.
I'm sure thy were probably different there, and I don't think many of us went out for meal often back in those days. It just wasn't a thing anyone did on a regular basis back then.
I'm trying to think back. I think by the 70's they had the indoor seating, but I think they may have still had the big giant arches. I'll have to look it up. I'm curious now.
I'm going to have to look up what they were like in the 70s. I can't really remember, although I'm pretty sure that was around the time we finally had one in my area.

DeleteYep! I absolutely do. And I also remember the aforementioned A&W drive-ins and Burger Chefs, too.
ReplyDeleteThe Burger Chef is one I don't remember. I looked it up and seems they were only in the northern part of Florida. I missed out on those.
DeleteI don't remember them looking like this, but it took some time for McDonalds to show up in our area. It was a big deal when the first one came.
ReplyDeleteI think it was into the 70s before we had one locally too, and it was definitely a big deal!

ReplyDeleteI definitely remember White Castle and Jack in the Box, but not Horn and Hardart.
DeleteI do!
ReplyDeleteCrazy isn't it?!
DeleteNope, that was way before I ever saw a McDonalds. They didn't make it to my neck of the woods until the early 1970s.
ReplyDeleteI only saw one while visiting my grandparents. That's probably why I remember it so well. It was like big special thing. :)

DeleteI remember them looking a little different back in the 70's but maybe not exactly like this.

DeleteI sure remember those too!
ReplyDeleteMe thinks we are getting old, lol!
DeleteOurs didn't look like this when they first came to town. In fact, the first one looks pretty much the same now as in the '70s.

DeleteI'm older than you but I don't remember! We didn't have very many McDonalds around my area.
ReplyDeleteI think I only remember because we went while visiting my grandparents. We definitely didn't have any near where I lived until much later.
DeleteIs that one of the first ones? I'm younger than that, alas.
ReplyDeleteIt was Liz, and I knew you were too young to remember something that far back! I'm ancient, lol!
DeleteThey were not quite like this when I was young, but they certainly were not like now.
ReplyDeleteThey've been through lots of different phases and stages since way back then. I hope your grandma is feeling better!
DeleteI remember, Martha! Oops, just aged myself. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing when I posted it, lol!
