This Week...

Hello friends, it's the weekend! How has your week been?

I've still been working in my storage room and getting things done slowly but surely. I sure do need more breaks than I used to. I've been putting stuff at the curb with a free sign and then loading up the car with whatever is left at the end of the day. Another carload went off to Goodwill this afternoon.

I woke up to a notification on my phone yesterday, it said I had to do a factory reset or my phone wouldn't work properly and would not restart if I turned it off. What a pain. It took me all day to figure it all out and get things set up at least somewhat how they were. Oh and none of my data saved even though I selected the option to save it - figures. I had to ask my husband for our own kid's phone numbers to put them back in my phone. Everyone else will get...

Obviously it's not really a new phone, but it might as well be since I have to start from scratch. I'm just so glad I had my phone set for photos to automatically save to Google photos, at least I didn't lose those.

I'm still hurricane season prepping here, using up freezer stock. We've had a few simple grilled meals and making main dish salads or sandwiches with the leftovers. It will be more of the same for the weekend and the upcoming week to finish up the last of it. Now I just have to keep myself from stocking up again when there are good sales. It's so difficult to know what to do right now with the shortages, threats of upcoming shortages, and price increases. It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't kind of situation for us during hurricane season.

Speaking of weather, we are still in serious drought conditions here. There has been some rain around the state but none that has reached us. We had a little five minute sun shower one afternoon, that was it. For the weekend and upcoming week the forecast is about the same as it was this week, high 80s with a 'real feel' in the triple digits due to our high humidity. We have about a 30% chance of rain overall, no real relief in sight.

I think that's about it for me for this week. I'll just be over here moving right along in the storage room and checking in to see what you're up to in between.

Have a great weekend! :)

  1. One of my memories of Florida summers was the way the sky opened up for a few minutes just about every day. No need to water the garden. Hope the drought is over soon.

Hope you get some rain and stay safe! I would be lost if I had to do that with my phone, scary thought, time to make a phone list! Hugs, Valerie

  10. Oh Martha, the phone thing! 2 years ago our old smart phones were no longer smart enough to be supported by the "new" 4G and we had to get 2 new ones, let me tell you how many "gees" I said. Good luck getting it all back to normal. Sorry about your drought conditions. I've had at least 10 inches in 3 weeks. The ground is so soaked that I were rubber boots to go out to clean the bird baths, they get dirty not dry!
Precious and I are enjoying a 2nd 4 day weekend alone. It helps her unwind, but when hubby comes home, she goes back into hiding. In 8 1/2 years, she's just not a male loving girl. Keep taking sorting breaks. After all, it'll stay right where it is until you move it, lol. Lynn and Precious

    1. Same here Sam. Starting over with a new phone is such a royal pain. Only thing worse is new car shopping lol. I am still well stocked on canned goods from pandemic stock up. The plan is to only buy for a week at a time but with the shortages that might become a problem to get what I want or need. Not to mention it will be more expensive shopping this way instead of stocking up on sales. I suppose it's kind of a first world problem.

  20. this is the first year in 32 years in this house that we have no blooms. just my moss rose. even the plumeria is not blooming. i sprinkle a little water on the bushes to keep them alive but it is not enough to bloom. i don't have the freezer probme because i only have a small one in fridge. but i agree it is a rock and a hard place. like you i notice more and more things not on the shelves. some of it is because the pandemic closed factories down, and food supply is short and truckers are not to be found. we will all be in the same ship sinking... so if you hoard food someone will come steal it. see there is a postive out look to NOT buying sales. ha aha

  22. I've never heard of a required factory reset. I wouldn't do it until I'd checked the validity of the message if I was asked to do that. I have an iPhone, an 8, and until recently used a 5c and I never had to reset it. The 5c wasn't able to use lots of apps, so I got the newer one. When I got the 8 it transferred everything I had over from the 5c seamlessly. Maybe yours isn't an iPhone. I suspect all strange notifications on my phone or emails on the computer! I am distrustful!

But the grass is growing and it's not dry enough to mow it this week.If we don't have afternoon showers I'm hoping to get out there today and get it done. I did very little in my spare bedroom this week, which has turned into a storage room, but did manage to find more of my shorts and tops for the summer and transfer some clothing around. 24. Martha, we could really use some rain here in California too. We haven't had hardly any rain since I moved up here to the mountains in January. You're doing a great job in your storage room, cleaning, organizing, and giving things away that you no longer need or want. And that's nice that you put out a box of free stuff in your yard. I've been thinking of doing that with some clothes I don't wear any more. Keep up the good work, Martha.

  25. I just recently bought a new smart phone because I dropped by previous one and smashed the screen. Getting a new phone is like buying a new car, the second you purchase one it's outdated. And I noticed that every time I get a new phone, they FORCE you do so many updates so that you overkill the space, which causes you to have to buy a NEW one! It's such a scam.

"... high 80s with a 'real feel' in the triple digits due to our high humidity. "

It's been like that here as well. The humidity has been insane. But we have been getting a lot of rain, which as you know, only makes for more humidity.

Didn't realize that preparing for hurricane season would mean emptying out the freezer, but I can see why. I lived in the Mobile area when Hurricane Frederic came through in '79. We didn't have power or safe water for a week! A freezer full of food would not have been good without a generator, and we have one didn't back then. We do now! Hope you get some rain soon to break your dry spell. Someone else probably has your rain right now and wishes it would go away! Happy Saturday, Martha!

I never used to empty the freezer for hurricane season, but a couple years ago we lost power for a week and had to toss everything. Now I make sure to use things up and only buy a minimal amount at a time. I don't ever want to go through that again!

  37. That notification was strange. I've owned iPhones for some 9 years and nothing like this ever happened. I hear you about the contact list though - when I bought my last new phone (nearly five years ago, knock on wood) I had to reconstruct a lot of the list. What a pain. So is trying to balance possible pandemic shortages vs. possible hurricane. But even without a hurricane, there could be a power outage or, (shudder) a hack of your local utility. It's something we who have full freezers and don't live in Florida also need to think about.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It was an odd notification that I've never had in all the years of owning a cell phone. We used to upgrade every two years, but this last time we've put it off. Our phones are 4-5 years old but still in perfect condition. We have androids and the message popped up directly from Android, not our service. It might have just been because it's getting so old, who knows. I figured it couldn't hurt anything to do it so I went for it. It was just a major hassle setting it all back up, especially since it didn't save anything.

Other power outages are always a possibility but here they usually don't last long enough to ruin everything. With the way things are going lately a hack into local utility is more worrisome. Either way I will have an empty freezer by this time next week and will try just shopping weekly and see how it goes.

I hope you are having a great weekend! :)

  53. I hope you get some rain soon. I read about the drought in California today too. Good luck with your phone. We have company coming this weekend. I have to clean in stages too. Have a good week Martha :)

    1. We did finally get some Denise. Big thunderstorms rolled through all night last night and it's raining again right now - finally! Enjoy your company this weekend Denise. :)

  55. Nothing like cleaning out a room or storage place - or for me sometimes just the kitchen counter. Such a great feeling. Enjoy your breaks and your accomplishment.

I hate getting a new phone. I just wrote a post about that - it isn't ready yet, but I got a new phone last summer. Always a pain. Sorry you lost your contacts when you had to factory restart yours. Ugh.

Hurricane season sounds dreadful, of course. I embrace the heat in the summer and don't mind enjoying the comfort of AC, but then some places blast the AC and I hate having to cart a sweater around with me in.the.summer.

    1. Oh yeah, the kitchen counter always counts! With the phone, losing contacts is bad enough but the worst is reinstalling apps and then not remembering the passwords! Hurricane season can be bad but only when one actually hits, hopefully we'll get lucky this year! In my wildest imagination I can't picture needing a sweater anywhere in the summer here in Florida. We have a convenience store that has a big walk in beer cave. I often go in there just to hang out for a bit, have thought about bringing a chair lol - summers are no joke here!

  56. Sure hope that your hurricane season is mild this year. It does give one a satisfied feeling to get stuff organized and disposed of.
We are under a total fire ban here for the last little while. Some rain is falling now, but probably not enough to lift the ban. It is just enough to keep things green, and the grass growing.
