Hodgepodge Time

It's been a long time since I've joined in for a Wednesday Hodgepodge. Head over to grab the questions, answer on your blog, and link up to play along with us!

1. What's something that reminds you of your grandmother? Tell us why.

My vintage Pyrex primary bowls remind me of my grandmother. When I was little, every Sunday was dinner at Grandma's house. Every single week these bowls were on the table holding the exact same meal. The yellow bowl had spaghetti, the green had salad, the red had meatballs, and the blue had extra sauce. I sure wish I had my grandmother's original set, but I did manage to find each piece one at a time from thrift stores, in fact I thrifted two sets just in case any get broken.

2. Is your life currently more 'moonlight and roses' or a little more 'every rose has it's thorn'? Elaborate.

Neither. Lately my life has been more like a dormant rose bush - all sticks and thorns. Believe me, you don't want me to elaborate, but I keep on smiling. :)

3. June 23rd is National Pink Day...favorite thing you own in any shade of pink? Favorite thing found in nature in any shade of pink? Your favorite pink food or beverage? Your favorite shade of pink?

Favorite thing I own in pink - the rims on my car

Favorite pink in nature - flamingos

Favorite pink food or drink - watermelon

Favorite shade of pink - hot pink

4. Last thing that had you 'tickled pink'?

I can't say that I've ever used the phrase tickled pink, but the last time I experienced extreme happiness was getting together with my whole family indoors, without mask, and with hugs included! It had been way too long.

5. What are two or three words that describe your style.

Casual, boho, and beachy

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Not a thought, but fitting photos to share for the pink theme. These were taken at Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy in Sarasota Florida.

I hope you are all having a great week - think pink! :)

  3. You are probably the most "pink" girl I know, not to mention fun and free-wheeling. Wow, those rims. I love to see the confirmation that a person's personality, temperament, and style are all in sync. I would have known you were boho when I saw the rims and flamingos. Love it!

  7. Fun to remember your grandmother through those pretty bowls and the food they contained at her table. You were wise getting extras. I have a very similar one to the large bowl, but mine is orange. All the other matching bowls were broken long ago. I have had this one since my early days of married life. I enjoyed all your answers today but No. 4 touched my heart. So many of us are going through that right now and I’m happy you had that joy of being with your family. All those pink photos are great!

  12. Wow! You are really and truly "in the pink!" I love the pyrex bowls. I have some aqua colored bowls (2) of my mother's, and also a couple of her pyrex pie plates. Vintage pyrex is all the rage these days it seems. I guess we are all just vintage kind of gals. Love the flamingoes. I have a friend with whom I have "shared" pink flamingoes for years...back and forth between yards, as gifts, as Christmas tree ornaments, whatever you name it...we've shared it...with a lot of laughs. She's originally from New Hampshire and that is where we met and started the tradition...even in the snow! Lots of fun stories about "Pinky Flamingo". Thanks for sharing your favorite pink things!! Such fun.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks Pamela! I've always wanted to collect the aqua set and the pink set too but have never come across a single piece of either. I do collect other pieces too. Not only are they all the rage for collecting but you should check out the prices vintage Pyrex goes for on eBay, it's crazy! I love that you and your friend had some great times over flamingos. I love them too. :)

  13. We call them mingos here because that's how my oldest used to say it and it stuck. I think all of our grandparents had those same bowls : ) My mom still has one or two from the set. Enjoy your day!

  14. I'll go with 3 of the questions. My doily crocheting reminds me of my grandmother. She taught me when I was five to do edging, doilies and fine crochet work. The torn is my side is or course, the destruction of trees across the road. Pink is for my sweet Seney, as I have pink lilies on her grave. I'll have a picture of them to show soon. I guess I am a "casual" person. Love your pinks to share. Lynn and Precious XX

    1. Thanks Lynn. I love that your grandmother taught you to crochet. My grandmother did crochet too but she passed away when I was still fairly young so I never got to learn from her. I'm so sorry about all the destruction across the street. Is precious adjusting to all the noise yet?

I get so many compliments on them every time I leave the house. They are fun and sassy! :)

I'm 100% all about red. Now I'm wondering about red rims. LOL I have a gray car. It would be very sharp I think

  24. What FUN rims! Wow, this week's questions were right up your alley. I, too, have my mother's vintage bowls -- there's but 3 remaining and yes, I remember each one having a purpose. The big yellow was for dough, the middle held tapioca pudding and baby blue melted butter (oleo, actually) or Miracle Whip.

  29. Wow! Those rims are something! Adorable gate with cats. I have my mother's serving bowls, just the green and yellow, I probably broke the blue when I was a teenager. They were made by the Fiesta company, but for sale at Woolworth's, called "Harlequin." They are huge, but sold as "individual" salad bowls!

  36. Loved the Pyrex memory of your grandmother. Mine too! And also Tupperware. As a kid, I loved burping it. HA!

Pink is one of my favorite colors, besides green. And I love flamingos. When my family first moved to South Florida, I beg my parents to put plastic flamingos on the front lawn, which they did. Do you remember the flamingos that were in the center of the Hialeah Park Race Track? So cool!

Fun post! Have a great rest of your week!

    1. Yep, everyone had the Tupperware back them too. I love that your parents got some of the pink flamingos for your yard. My grandparents had them but my mom would never get them.

    1. Thanks so much Rosalea. It's funny, I was never a fan of pink until my son did my rims in hot pink. Now I love all things pink - except clothing and only because the color looks horrible on me.

  64. I LOVE your pyrex. I too had a set, but the box got lost in one of our moves :( I miss them. And I LOVE all the pink questions, answers and photos, especially the cat gate!

  66. Those vintage Pyrex bowls used to fetch good money on eBay. Perhaps they still do.

    1. They still do and are worth much more now than they were a few years back!

  68. I have the red Pyrex bowl like yours in my cabinet right now and I love it. It came from a thrift store and I have always looked for more of the set. It is used constantly.
