K - Keys

Ah, the Florida Keys. If you're heading to Key West, the journey from Miami is every bit as enjoyable as the destination. The drive from Miami to Key West takes about four hours on the scenic Overseas Highway. The highway crosses over 42 different bridges along the way, one of them being the famous seven mile bridge. It's a breathtaking drive, and there are so many great stops along the way that it can take an entire day to make your way to Key West.

Once in Key West plan to party! Key West is unofficially called the capital of craziness (and rightly so). Duval Street is the happening place. It's about a mile long and stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. It's lined with bars, restaurants, shops, and attractions. There are so many places and things there I'd love to tell you about, but I'm trying not to turn a post into a book.

An absolute must while in Key West is visiting the famous Southernmost point.

There are approximately 1,700 island that make up the Florida Keys but most are very small and uninhabited or only accessible by boat. The main islands are Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine Key and Key West. Every single one is such a beautiful adventure.

Don't miss visiting the Keys if you ever make a trip to Florida, and don't forget to have some Key West famous key lime pie while you're there too!

More Florida fun on the way tomorrow for the A to Z Challenge.

  8. I've lived in Florida most of my life and have never yet been to the Keys. It would be fun to go so I can say I've been there, but I really don't have any burning desire to do so. I'm not much of an island person, especially when it comes to hurricane season! But I do like Key Lime Pie. Do key limes grow in Key West? I guess that is where they got the name KEY Lime. Duh! LOL. I do love it, but can only take a small piece as it is rich and tart! Have a blessed day my friend.

  48. Would you believe that I, a Native Floridian had only visited the keys one time (marathon) when I was a younger person? I think we camped there when I was around 20. But, we did make it there for our 25th wedding anniversary five years ago. Key West is a must see for everyone; we really enjoyed ourselves. And YES to Key Line Pie!

    1. It's been close to the same for me! We went to Key Largo for a vacation once when I was a kid. Made it to Key West in my mid 20s which I probably wouldn't remember if I did have photos to prove it, we partied pretty hard in those days lol. My husband and I went for a weekend maybe 10 years ago now. In fact I think it was our anniversary too at the time!
