Throwback Thursday - Flat Koda

This week I'm featuring a fun throwback post, actually several posts combined. This is especially for Betty at A Bench With a View. Her sweet Koda was the most famous dog in the land of blogs back in the day. Some of you who followed way, way back might remember this too, It's a fun read either way.

A little over twelve years ago I did a fun little contest on my blog for a virtual vacation to Florida. You can really get away with some silly stuff, and have so much fun with it when you have children involved. My boys shown in this post are grown men already - time sure does fly!

Virtual Vacation - Time to pick the winner!

Congrats Koda, you are coming to Florida! This is going to be so much fun!

Koda arrived at the Venice airport here in Florida about 3 this afternoon. Look how excited he is to be here!

The first stop after his arrival was to get some treats of course. Don't worry Betty, we got one of each.

Next stop was at Grandma's house. Grandma just loves Koda! (Grandma also thinks I have lost my mind)

Koda
and the boys spent the rest of the afternoon in the pool at Grandma's house.

Then it was time to go home so Koda could see where he'll be staying. I got Koda set up with a comfy little bed, and then posed with his new friends for a photo. I think they will all get along just fine.

When Chewy showed up Koda asked me if there was a hotel nearby. You can tell by the look on his face that he's getting a little uncomfortable now.

This evening Koda is just hanging out with me in my favorite spot while those other creatures, as Koda calls them, are off sleeping somewhere.

Koda told me to say hi to all of you out here in Blogville, especially his mom Betty!

We'll be busy these next two weeks entertaining Koda. Watch for more special entries here and there of Koda on his Virtual Vacation :-)
________________________________

You know I wasn't about to leave Koda at home when we went on the Worldwide Photo Walk (this was without the boys lol). Ms Vicki from the Shellseeker loved having Koda with us. Here she is with Koda shortly after we arrived.

Look at the sky, we thought for sure we were going to get rained out. Oh Ms Vicki wanted me to mention that it was very windy too (and not just a cool new hairstyle ;-)

Ms Vicki took right over with Koda. If they post our group photo of all participants at the Photo Walk site you'll see Vicki standing front and center proudly holding Koda.

So we start off on our photo walk and Koda seems to be enjoying the sights.

Next thing you know Koda is heading to the tiki bar and grill. That's where our walk would be ending not beginning, but of course Koda wanted to eat and grab a cold one first thing. The tiki man must have been hungry too, I had to give him a big squeeze to get him to let Koda go!

Once we escaped the tiki man we were ready to continue our photo walk.

Once again Koda went in the opposite direction. Instead of the going on the fitness walk Koda headed straight for the party boat.

I'll tell you, Koda is one party animal! Koda hopped on the party boat and told us he'd see us after the Photo Walk. I think he had a great time. I mean come on, just look how happy and excited he is!

I can't believe Koda has been here on his (virtual) vacation for a whole week already! Time has gone by so fast with all the fun we've been having!

Today while we were out Koda picked up a bunch of postcards to send to all his friends. If you want a postcard from Koda while he's here visiting Florida be sure to email me your snail mail address, you can find my email link on my profile :-)

Today was my son Big J's Birthday. Koda got to go on a little birthday road trip with us over to Busch Gardens In Tampa.

This first shot is Koda on the tram on the way in.

Next up is Koda and the little guy on the sky ride. The little guy was a bit nervous but Koda had a blast as I'm sure you can tell by his expression.

Here is Koda on his favorite roller coaster - ok so maybe you can't exactly see Koda in the photo but you'll have to trust me - he was on there and loved it!

It was so hot out there today! We were supposed to have record breaking temps and I'm pretty sure we did! I thought we were all going to keel over from heat exhaustion. You can tell how hot poor Koda is by the way he's panting. He was fine once we got him a nice cold blueberry smoothie. Here he is sitting in the shade enjoying his nice cold drink - He is looking a little rough around the edges though don't you think?

Koda has been very busy the last few days trying to squeeze in a few last minute things before heading back home.

We went to play mini golf with the gators. There was a trip to the beach, walking along the pier, lunch at Sharky's, and shopping for cheesy Florida souvenirs for Betty in quaint historic downtown Venice. We also took Koda over to Nokomis Groves where we toured the orange groves, packing plant and had some yummy ice cream!

Tonight we'll be packing and getting everything ready to take Koda to the airport tomorrow. Koda's vacation just flew by!

Koda's virtual vacation has come to an end. These two weeks sure went by fast! Bye Koda, we will miss you so much!

Betty, Koda is on his way and so is your souvenir package!

This has sure been a good dose of pure silly summer fun. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have! :-)

See what I meant a few days ago when I said I had so much fun on my blog back in the old days. I seriously cracked myself up reading back through these old posts and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Unfortunately our beloved Koda passed away in 2014. We have also lost my mom, Ms Vicki and Chewy the white kitty since the original posts. May they all rest in peace. 💓

  1. Oh Martha, this made me laugh and then cry a few tears for Koda!! That was such a fun time!! Remember Iggy? He loved the adventures of Koda. I had played Word with Friends with him up to a few months ago; I don't think he's in good health (Iggy). Koda was the best but his protege Winslow is proving to be interesting too.

Thanks for featuring him and me on your Throwback Thursday! Those were fun times and you are right blogger was fun back then, giveaways, contests, etc. A lot has changed in those short years! Your kids have gotten all grown up now!

    1. I laughed and cried too Betty and for so many different reasons.

I remember Iggy very well. He wasn't posting much but he still commenting here and there when I came back 2 years ago. I haven't heard from him yet this time. I figured he might not be in good health. I hope he is OK.

Those were definitely some fun days and like that post I did about never forgetting your neighborhood kids that we grew up with, I feel the same about the people I got to know in the early days of blogging. I recently sent a message to a few of our original J Landers that I still follow on Instagram trying to get them to come back to blogging too - fingers crossed!

I enjoyed this walk down memory lane. I can't wait to see more about little Winslow. He is adorable!

Have a great day Betty :)

  2. What a fun memory! I do remember the flat Koda days. We thought about doing something like that when we had a family vacation this year, but so far nothing has happened. It's a fun way to share where you live and what you are doing. Thanks for all the memories today of fun times in the past.

    1. It was definitely some good times. I hope you will do something like this on your next family vacation. Maybe a flat family member(s) who can't attend so they can be part of the fun too. I sure do miss those blogging days and I miss my kids being young too. It amazed me to think they would have been in 5th and 8th grade in these photos. How is it possible to go from that to grown men in only 12 short years?! I hope you have a great day Ma :)

  3. What a WONDERFUL idea! I chortled my way throughout the tour -- particularly your mentions of Koda's expressions. So good to finally 'see' you, too, Martha! Will you be doing something like this again?

PS - As seems to be the case, I'm late to the table -- will have mine up this evening after we get back from Opelika.

    1. It was so much fun Myra and my boys enjoyed it as a summer project too. My mentions of Koda's expressions is what cracked me up too lol. You probably wouldn't recognize me now from that photo, 12 years at this point in life adds a whole lot of aging. I probably won't be doing it again any time soon. It would just be weird to have an old lady out and about by herself with a flat photo. Maybe I'll do it when I have some grands to have some fun with - if my kids would hurry up before I'm too old to still get around lol.

See you when you get back. Hope you have a good day :)

    1. Thanks Ginny and boy do I ever agree with you on that! I wish I could come up with some fun new things for blogging, but I've noticed it's very difficult to get anyone to engage these days. Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you have a great day!

  6. Koda didn't melt down here in Florida! YAY! Looks like you had lots of fun. If he had been here he would have hiked the Florida trails...and that's about it! Sure looks like fun though! Thanks for sharing the adventures of Koda!

    1. I sure couldn't run around in the heat anymore like I did back in those days. It would have to be early morning beach walks and fun in places with air conditioning if I were to do it again now. It was definitely fun time. Thanks for visiting and sharing our throwback adventure :)

  7. I remember Koda! This was before I started blogging and visiting blogs, though, so this was my first time seeing his Florida vacation. Such a cute idea! So fun! Once things are back to normal, I may do something like this. I'm trying to figure out a way to do something like it for my chemo buddies because that idea is awesome, and definitely cheerful.

    1. You were a late blogging bloomer, 2014 was around the time so many left blogging and went to Facebook instead - no comparison. Blogging beats all social media! The early days were so much fun and we had such a strong sense of community. I'm hoping to somehow recreate that along the way. Thanks so much for visiting. Have a great weekend :)

  14. I love this!! I never knew about your blog until today when I happened across it via another blog (I've been blogging since 1998 but that first blog I kept was deleted in 2017 when I started over). What a fun and happy post. Bless those sweet pets, Koda and Chewy, and your mom Ms Vicki. These are great memories!
