Sunday 6

It's time for week two of Sunday 6. I'm looking forward to others joining in the fun. I hope you will play along!

1. Weekly Recap

This past week has been ridiculously hot here in SW Florida. We have been under a severe heat advisory urging everyone to stay indoors. Our heat index reached 110 degrees almost every day, and not so much as even a slight breeze. Our AC has been running nonstop during the day. It's so bad that I have had to keep all the blinds closed to try to help keep the house cool. Sitting in a dark dungeon all day has done nothing to help keep my mood positive. Oh and Covid cases are skyrocketing out of control here, Russian fighter planes were intercepted in US airspace for the third time this month, hovering in the atmosphere is the Saharan desert dust storm, and that's just to name a few things. Seriously people, are we actually living Jumanji 2020?!

2. To do list for this week

I will suit up and head to the grocery store on Monday. Hopefully I can make it through without Covid exposure, an anxiety attack, heat stroke, or going the wrong way down a grocery aisle. The rest of the week there is a high chance of sitting on the couch day and night in the dark dungeon with a slight chance of day drinking. Chances of evening drinking will increase to 100% all week.

3. Menu plan

I don't even want to think about hot food this week, but I do have a yummy menu plan even in my current mood.

Sunday - Brunch: Homemade waffles, fresh fruit
Dinner: Antipasto platter

Monday - Falafel pitas w/ tzatziki sauce, tabbouleh

Tuesday - Club sandwiches, fresh fruit

Wednesday - Chicken and mushroom lettuce wraps

Thursday - BLT Panzanella salad

Friday - Quiche, fresh fruit

Saturday - Chicken Waldorf salad

4. Something I'd like to share

I mentioned it last week but wanted to share The Working Pantry Boot Camp Class today just in case you missed it. I've always believed in keeping a well stocked pantry (I didn't even have to panic during the 2020 toilet paper shortage). I do think it's more important now than ever. Since Covid hit I still never know what I'll be able to get at the grocery store, and of course I want to go out shopping as little as necessary right now too. If you haven't been following along head over to check it out. The class is on assignment #4 but you can easily catch up quickly.

6. Closing notes

Every time I start to say anything more I have to keep deleting. I'm biting my tongue to hold back on political rants which is so unlike me, I'm just so fed up at this point. I'll just leave you with something nicer, and I swear it is so true. I just don't get it!

  1. Your Jumanji comparison is definitely apt lately! LOL The weather up north has cooled considerably. I think we barely got to 80s by the end of the week. I just wish it would STAY hot or cooler. The change is what wrecks my head and overall comfort ;) Thanks for starting Sunday 6, and enjoy your week!

  2. Ya, I've been following Florida's extreme heat and C19 stats. (Guess that's a throwback to having spent so many years in and around Tampa/St.Pete/Port Charlotte.) Hey, we can start day drinking right now and call it communion? Tom and I'd never succeed at sticking to a weekly menu plan but a few of your choices sound heavenly. It's been forever since I had a good quiche. Happy Sunday!

    1. Hi Myra, Do you ever come to Florida to visit anymore? OK I'm in on the day drinking aka communion, wish it could be frozen Pina Coladas at the tiki bar but we'll make due lol. Happy Sunday :)

  3. "Chances of evening drinking will increase to 100% all week." HA! Thanks, I needed that. I grew up in Ocala (my folks are still there) and we moved from Alabama 7 yrs ago to western/Southern Tier of NY, (wanna talk oppressive over this virus? (lololol)) we don't have long summers, but we do have the humidity for about 2 months or so.

Have a great Sunday, stay cool. Thank you for the smiles.

    1. Hi Linda, the years I lived in Ocala I thought it was even hotter there in the summers than it is here in SW Florida or the east side where I'm originally from. At least Ocala got a little bit of change of seasons. Cheers! :)

  4. It's been very humid where I live in Florida too but today it's only 67%. I LOVE club sandwiches and fresh fruit, and that watermelon looks so good! I always stay stocked up on food and household items, you never know when it will rain till it floods or a hurricane will hit. Your "people during quarantine" is so true.

I hope you have a great week!

    1. Hi Vicki, Thankfully today we aren't under heat advisory, real feel is only 100 today lol. I was just telling my husband that we need to do extra stock up, especially on water, batteries, etc. now that it's hurricane season too. Thanks for stopping by today. Stay safe and stay cool :)

  5. Here in Ohio it is only mid 80's so I'm thankful I'm not in Florida, although I do love your fair state. It does help to close the curtains when it is hot out so to save electricity I close mine an turn on my small fans to keep the air circulating. Hopefully things will start to improve, we have so much sheltering at home and now with the summer everyone wants to get out and enjoy the nice weather. Your menu with the salads and fruits sounds perfect for the hot weather. I eat a lot of them myself these days. About the time we finally get used to one way of living, it seems things change again. Take good care and be safe.

    1. Hi Ma, mid 80's is pretty hot too but I suppose your humidity isn't as bad there as it is here. I'm really looking forward to this week's menu with all the cool refreshing meals. I hope things start getting better soon too, although it just seems we are going backwards. Stay in and stay safe. Hugs and smiles :)

  6. Your menu sounds perfect for the heat! So sorry it's been so unbearable! I absolutely LMBO reading about the chance of day drinking and the night drinking increasing by 100%. Sorry you're having to live in tomb :( I hope the heat backs off and the dust dissapates enough to make it bearable.

    1. Thanks Tamy. It's so funny, when my husband makes his monthly trip to stock us up on bottled water and beer people always make comments wanting to know where the party is. Nope, it's just for us lol! Hope all is well where you are. Thanks for linking up today :)

  7. Wow with the heat!!! I just can't imagine that with the humidity! Thankfully we are having a mild summer so far with rare days over 110 degrees.

I saw a meme on Facebook a few weeks ago. It said something to the fact what chapter of Revelations are we living today. Made me laugh but a lot of truth in that. Crazy times indeed.

Our numbers are constantly rising here over the last 10 days. I don't get it. Lots of people are getting tested for it. I wish they would relate more numbers like are the people symptomatic who are getting tested or are they being tested because they were exposed to someone?

I like your menu for the week. Looks yummy!

We do have a well stocked pantry and paper supplies. We could comfortably not make it to the store for a few months if we had to.

    1. Hi Betty, As of today we are finally not under sever heat advisory. It's only 90 degrees with 70% humidity. Still miserably hot but normal for summer in Florida. I know you'll get your share of heat there too. Believe me, the book of Revelations has crossed my mind more than once these last few months! Definitely scary times. I wish they would give more detailed info on the testing too, they should have been contact tracing all along and maybe things wouldn't have gotten so far out of control. I suspected that they were reopening things way too quickly and now we're all going backwards. Stay safe out there Betty and have a great week :)

  8. We are warm here also...but not as warm as you! We have a well stocked pantry, I usually buy two of things we use when they are on sale...if you get in a groove it will make a cycle and I never pay full price for ketsup, miracle whip, salad dressings, cake mixes etc...stay cool...yes icy drinks in the evening must happen!

  10. Well, at least in AZ, it's a dry heat. LOL

Sorry you guys are suffering. 110 sucks no matter what the humidity, but yours? ICK.
