October Highlights

Overall October has been a pretty quiet month other than our trips to Fort Lauderdale. Those trips are anything but quiet, more like party central! This is the first month in a long, long time that I wasn't dealing with a hundred other things and could just relax and enjoy it all.

Our weather here in sunny Florida was the usual sweltering hot 90 plus temps through the third week of October. Finally in the last week we had some beautiful fall weather with one very windy day, and one very cold day as Tropical Storm Philippe zipped by, and now it's back to beautiful 70s weather which is the forecast all the way through mid November. Perfection!

We really enjoy our trips to Fort Lauderdale and our little home sweet second home there. We made three trips over this month. The thing I like most about our condo is the fact there there isn't any stuff, and there can't be since it is rented by the Hilton when we aren't using it. I'm so sick of dealing with stuff that the minimalist within has been in full swing getting rid of things. Not that I haven't been for years and years, but the more time that goes by, the less and less I want. I only want to collect memories and photographs now.

I love our beaches on the SW side, but the Fort Lauderdale beaches are absolutely beautiful too. This is one of my favorite beaches in Fort Lauderdale. I have many childhood memories of picnics, BBQ's and family fun in the sun in this same spot. It hasn't changed at all over the years.

Of course I've already mentioned another favorite in Fort Lauderdale is the fantastic food!

The seafood is excellent, and one of our other very favorites is delicious Mediterranean food. It is so good, nice and healthy too, which helps balance out those fried food feasts!

Another highlight this month, I have an adorable new grand-kitty! My youngest son found her alone and abandoned up under their front porch. The vet said she was only 3-4 weeks old. They had to feed her with an eye dropper for the first few weeks. I can't recall what her real name is because my son always calls her Potato. He said she was the exact size of a little tiny potato when they found her. She was so tiny she would fall asleep in the palm of his hand. She's getting a little bigger now, weighing in at one whole pound. Their Big German Shepard, Bo, thinks she is the mom, and the tiny Tater thinks so too. It's the sweetest thing ever!

Of course another highlight this month is my return to the blogging world! I have enjoyed catching up with old friends and sharing what I've been up to. I have noticed that I'm not the only one that disappeared, sadly very few of my old blogging buddies are still around. Out of the few that are still here, it looks as if the majority only pop in with a rare post here and there. It's sure not like it once was. Sad to say but looks like blogging for the most part is a thing of the past. Either way, I'm going to try to stick with it!

I'll close with this awesome beach scene jack-o-lantern my talented son made. Very cool isn't it?!

Any plans for Halloween? It will be a quiet one here. We haven't had any trick-or-treating in my neighborhood in many years, I think that is pretty much a thing of the past too. Sometimes I sure do miss the good old days. Have a safe and happy Halloween. I'll see you in November!

  1. I'm here from farside of fifty, hope you don't mind.
The German Shepherd kitty picture captured my heart. Thanks for sharing. I bet the kitty is glad for the warmth and heartbeat of Bo. They will be good buddies for each other.

  2. I love your condo, Martha!! Very nice and efficient!! Honestly if hubby passes before me, I could see myself getting into something like that. I too am finding I'm content with less and less the older I get.

What a cute picture with the cat and dog together!! So sweet and so glad your son was at the right place at the right time to rescue her! What a sweetie she is!

Love the carving of the pumpkin too! Very nicely done!

This is our 2nd Halloween here in this house. Last year we probably got about 50-60 kids. We'll see how it is this year. I noticed not a lot of our neighbors had their lights on last year so not sure how many around us actually gave out candy.

    Have a good one!

    1. Thanks Betty! I love it too. We are considering selling our house in a few years and buying an RV to travel now that our youngest son lives across the country. We can use the condo as a home base and a place to spend the winters. Keeping my fingers crossed that we can make it happen.

That little Tater is the cutest little thing. I was worried about her being around a big dog, but that has obviously worked out just fine!

So glad you still have trick-or-treaters, maybe it's just here in my area that they don't do it anymore. It was my favorite holiday as a kid and I was thinking what a shame that kids don't get to to do that anymore.

      Have a Happy Halloween! :)

  3. OMG, Tiny Tater has to be the cutest thing ever! Kudos to your son for rescuing her and nursing her to health. And I've gotta say, that Mediterranean food is making me really hungry!

It's really fun to have you back in the blog-o-sphere. I fear I haven't been posting much this year - I've been a bit overwhelmed with home remodeling so it's been hard to get my proverbial kaka together enough to craft meaningful posts. I do enjoy reading what others are up to though!

    1. Hi Cat, I totally agree, love that cute little Tater! I know how it is with those home renovations, We have renovated two different homes in the last few years, it's no fun, but worth the end results. Hope you will be back to posting again soon, I miss reading yours! Have a Happy Halloween! :)

  6. Hi Martha, It is so good to see you back blogging. I had to think who you are even though I did think of you recently. After all I am getting older. Ha I think God has let me live to take care of John. He has lots of problems. I'm thankful my blood disease has been stable for the last few months. Hope you and your family are well and good and it sounds as if you are.

    1. Hi Paula, I had wondered if you remembered me or not. I'm glad it came to you! I'm so sorry to hear John has a lot of problems. I hope he's still able to get out and about, I know he was always very active. Glad you are doing well. We are doing fine, we just became empty-nesters last year. Crazy to think my youngest was still a toddler when I fist met you on blogs, and now they are all grown up! I look forward to catching up with you more soon! :)

    1. Tater and Bo are so cute together! I'm happy to be back to blogging too, going to try to stick with it if only once a week, or even once a month. Still have lot of stuff to deal with, but only a garage full left instead of another whole house full! :)
