It's been a pretty quiet hurricane season for us here in Florida so far this year but we're only about mid season now. Tropical storm Isaac is headed our way and forecast to be a strong category 1 hurricane, possibly a category 2 before it reaches my area. Here's where we stand as of the latest update...
This morning I did my grocery shopping including hurricane stock up on extra water, batteries, etc. I made it just before the shelves were empty. People get crazy in the stores when there is a hurricane on the way!
Unfortunately, because of my early shopping/preparation there were no junkin' adventures for me today. With the bad weather on the way I don't see any treasure hunting adventures happening at all this weekend. Not to worry, I did get a really wonderful treasure anyway. A gift...
Isn't it awesome? I love it so much! I've always had a thing for old trunks, but never dreamed I'd own one like this. I can't wait to get it cleaned up. What do you think, gorgeous isn't it?
My husband was doing a tile job for a friend of the family when he spotted this in the garage. He casually mentioned how beautiful it was and how much I would love it. When he went back out to his truck at the end of the day the trunk was in the back - a gift for me!
I hope you are having a great weekend. They've already closed schools here for Monday so it's a 3 day weekend for us. Let the hurricane party begin - cheers!
Linking up to Homespun Happenings: Rustic Restorations Weekends #17

It's been awhile since we had to close the schools for a hurricane. I didn't want to get a day off like this!
ReplyDeleteI know! I was shocked that they closed so early. I don't ever remember them doing that in the past, they usually wait until the night before. Sure hope we don't have any major damage. Stay safe!
DeleteHopefully it isn't a bad one and all survive, good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat ::fingers crossed::
DeleteKeep those hatches battoned down! What an awesome trunk - absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tamy. I can't wait to get the trunk cleaned up and see how it looks. Of course I won't be doing any full restoration on it, love the look as is!
DeleteI like that trunk, Martha!! My sister's daughter just started school at Ringling down in Sarasota; school closed down so she had to find some place to go (went to a friend's in Tennessee). Hoping the storm is not a bad one (but neat that you at least got a 3 day weekend out of it :)
ReplyDeletebetty
Poor kid! Wish I would have known, I would have offered for her to come stay with us. We're about a half an hour from the Ringling college!
DeleteThe 3 day weekend will be great as long as there is no damage and hopefully no major power outages either.
Wow - what an awesome gift!!!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! Thanks Kim :)
DeleteWhat a great old trunk and how wonderful to have been gifted it! Hope all is well hurricane-wise. It cracks me up that people stock up on a lot of food that has to be refrigerated or frozen then the power goes out and everything spoils.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny the things people do in a panic? I learned long ago after living in Florida my whole life that the most important things to stock up on is water (and lots of it) and packaged food that doesn't require cooking - things that we always use if possible. In a real crisis after power is out for a week and roads are blocked people will kill for water, a box of granola bars, or a jar of peanut butter and a box of crackers!
DeleteI hope the storm doesn't do much (if any) damages. The trunk is lovely. Also you're not doing the minimalism thing anymore are you?
ReplyDeleteNo damage thankfully. Thanks for the compliment on the trunk. I'm definitely still doing the minimalist thing in my own personal life - but enjoying the ride on getting there as I go through my mother's things and finding fun finds for my store. Some things that I can really use I will keep, but not to worry, I'm still a minimalist in the making!!
Deleteugh, we are in the orange zone. hope it just goes away. i have dear friends moving to st pete this weekend. they are supposed to be here tomorrow. not a good welcome to fl present!! love the trunk. i finally got one this past year.
ReplyDeleteHope all went well in your area, no problems here. Hope all went well with your friend's move too!!
DeleteTHE TRUNK IS LOVELY AND YES WHAT A WONDERFUL GIFT. NOW ON TO THE HURRICANE. I TOO LIVE IN FLORIDA AND IN LINE FOR IT ALSO. I'LL SAY A PRAYER FOR YOU AND YOU CAN SAY ONE FOR US. MY GRAND DAUGHTER JUST WENT BACK TO SCHOOL IN TALLY AND I'M CONCERN FOR HER. SHE JUST BOUGHT MY LITTLE CAR AND DROVE BACK. SHE WAS SO HAPPY. I HATE HURRICANES AND I JUST PRAY THAT GOD SPARES FLORIDA FROM BAD DAMAGE. BUT HE HAS A PLAN AND WILL DIRECT THE WINDS AS HE SEE FIT. BE SAFE.
ReplyDeleteGRANNY
Thanks Granny. I sure wish I knew where to find you! Do you have a blog? If so, please leave me a link!! Thank you for stopping by again :)
DeleteStay safe dear friend! Your trunk is great and a nice way you became the owner of it too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paula :)
DeleteI'm glad you get Monday off! Stay safe! And what a lovely gift! How sweet!
ReplyDeleteThe gift is super sweet and the extra day off too - but do you feel the same way I do that the week seems twice as long when we get an extra day off from school?
DeleteIt's better to be prepared just in case. Hope you all stay safe and that the storm passes you by. Praying for all those concerned. Take good care!
ReplyDeleteI love the trunk! That was so nice of him! Thanks so much for sharing this at Rustic Restorations Weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh and stay safe!
DeleteThose old trunks are very cool. If hubby can do a great job polishing it up (like they do on the restoration show), it will look brand spanking new.
ReplyDeleteAs for the hurricane, I don't miss the frenzy of things down there when a 'cane comes barreling in. Hope the damage is very minimal to Florida and that you are all 100% safe.
Cheers!
You are so funny - hubby polishing it up? I think not. I don't have a "honey do" list, I have an "I'll do it myself so it actually gets done" list!!
DeleteAll went well with the storm - lots of hype, but that's so typical with media.
hoping you stay safe and dry, martha:) your new truck is simply awesome--love the patina!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynne, all is fine here :)
DeleteOh we will be saying prayers that all is well and everyone is safe. I have never experienced a hurricane they don't sound like something I feel I have missed! Hubby and I will have the opportunity of visiting your pretty state for the first time in November. Hubs is a hospice chaplain and they are having a big hospice conference out there- The stay is free I just have to pay for the plane ticket!!!! I guess I will be doing lots of exploring by myself as hubby will be in seminars most of the time but am so excited about it!!
ReplyDeleteI love your trunk! I need this for my displaying at the store!
I need to apologize for taking so long to come over and say hi. You left such a sweet note on my blog weeks ago and I just found it in my moderate comments file. Thank you for your visit!
Thanks Mary Ellen. You will have to let me know where the conference will be. Maybe we could get together so I can show you some sights here!
DeleteWhat a wonderful old trunk! You will have lots of fun with that. Well....we're getting some rain this morning and hoping that's all we get! Stay safe! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteAnd now we're back to sweltering heat :)
DeleteHopefully all goes well for you over there! Stay safe!
