BBQ Pulled Pork

Before I tell you how I made my pulled pork I have one thing to say - forgive me Chris for I have sinned. I made my pulled pork in the slow cooker ::gasp:: Can you ever forgive me?

Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork

I started with a 6-ish pound pork butt (great deal at Sam's Club, 2 pork butts, almost 13 pounds altogether for $15.60).
ry rub (optional but highly suggested)
  • 2 tablespoons kosher or coarse salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • half teaspoon ground cumin

Rub pork thoroughly, cover and refrigerate overnight. Place pork in slow cooker in the morning - no liquid needed other than a couple (optional) dashes of liquid smoke. Cook on low for about 8 hours. Once cooked thoroughly remove pork and drain juices. Once it's cooled just a bit the pork will shred easily with two forks. It can be put back in the slow cooker mixed with BBQ sauce until ready to serve or just serve with BBQ sauce on the side.

I admit it's not as great as a nice pork roast made in the smoker, but it is really good and it's super easy too! It's perfect for those long work days when you really don't have time for cooking; come home and dinner's ready! Serve with coleslaw on top or on the side.

This made enough for 2 evenings for four (two of those teenage boys). It freezes well too!

  8. I only make pulled pork in the crockpot. It is just so easy and I think it tastes fantastic. There is just no time for me to leave something in the oven for 6 hours. This looks so good!

    Actually, my first attempts at pulled pork were in a crock pot too. And I know most people don't have
    a) a smoker (or two)
    b) and extra 8-16 hours to spare keeping an eye on their fire.

    And you get points in my book for slaw on top:)

    Big Bob Gibson's BBQ Book has a recipe for a Jerk style pulled pork that I want to try soon. Talk about unconventional !

  10. I make my pulled pork in the slow cooker. Wouldn't consider any other way, and my family loves it. I think you did wonderfully!! No apologizes required when it's this GOOD!
